While the weather is cold outside there are plenty of ways to enjoy some fun warm times on Rokkosan this winter. There has been a bit of snow this season and below zero temperatures also make some icy areas, so whether driving or hiking, be sure to plan for cold weather, wear non-slip shoes and dress warm when visiting the mountain. Still there are many ways to keep warm while you are here.
Enjoy Warm Kotatsu at Mori-No-Ne Museum
The Japanese Kotatsu is a lovely tradition that remains in use all over Japan today. Basically it is a table with a heater under it and a quilt that flows from the top to cover your legs.
This season at the Mori-No-Ne Museum they have a couple of ways that one can enjoy the mountain from the warmth of a Kotatsu.
The first is with their SIKI Dome Kotatsu which is a 360-degree transparent dome set up in the garden of the museum.
The plan offers a lovely lunch with private use of the dome. While staying in the dome visitors can try their hand at playing music boxes and other musical instruments.
The domes can be used by two to four people from 11:00 until 15:30 each day. Note, registration ends at 13:00. This will run until March 17th (Friday), 2023.
The cost is ¥4,500 per person and the price is for Adults as well as children over 4 years old. For children 3 years old and younger who also want lunch, the cost is the same.
Enjoy Music from at Kotatsu in the Museum
Another way is to sit in one of the kotatsu set up inside the museum for use while enjoying the automatic musical instruments such as disc music boxes and automatic organs that will perform music perfect for winter.
You can enjoy music carefully selected by the concert staff, ranging from classics by Beethoven and the Strauss family appropriate for the year-end and New Year holidays, to contemporary pieces from movies and animations depicting winter, and graduation songs perfect for the graduation season.
As mentioned, some of the seats in the concert room (8 seats in total) are equipped with a kotatsu. So why not warm up with the kotatsu and listen to the sounds of automatic musical instruments as the lanterns twinkle in the light?
Show times start at 10:00 and run every hour for 30 minutes with the last showing at 16:00.
They are closed on Thursdays and this event will also run until March 17 (Friday), 2023.
Special Cable and Museum Pass
For those of you who are thinking to take the Rokkosan Cable car up to visit the museum, there is a special pass available this season.
This special ticket includes admission to the ROKKO Morino Sound Museum, a round-trip ticket for the Rokko Cable and a free ride on the Rokko Sanjo Bus. In addition, the ticket includes special offers available at facilities on the Rokko Mountain.
The cost is ¥2,400 for Adults (middle school students and older) which is a ¥400 savings.
*There is no set price for children, but children accompanied by a ticket holder will receive a 50 yen discount on the admission fee to the ROKKO Mori-No-Ne Museum. The ticket also gives other discounts at shops on the mountain.
Rokkosan Live Video Stream
The Mt.Rokko Visitor Center also has started a Live YouTube Video Stream so that visitors can see the current weather on Rokkosan before they head up. One can also enjoy beautiful views of Rokkosan from the warmth of ones own house.
