Rokkosan Summer!

Rokkosan in the Clouds
Although there are some days like today where Rokkosan is literally in the clouds, not fog, but clouds, the rainy season is almost over, and then comes Summer.

With the temperature on Rokkosan being between 6 to 10 degrees Celsius lower than down in the city, it is wonderful to relax and enjoy being cool on Rokkosan in the summer.

Tanabata Festival

Tanabata Festival
The Tanabata festival is coming up on July 7th (See the previous post for details) and this year there is a cut bamboo display at both the Mt. Rokko Guide House as well at the Mt.Rokko Visitor Center. When you visit, please be sure to stop by and write and attach your wish!

There are also many wonderful events on Rokkosan happening right now.

Mt.Rokko Photographic Garden

Rokko Photographic Garden
From May 11th to July 31st the “Mt.Rokko Photographic Garden” has beautiful photographic displays by Japanese and International Photographers at many venues on the mountain. Some venues free, some cost to enter. There is also a Special Four Venue Ticket available for ¥1,600 for adults and ¥800 yen for children.

Vories Rokko Sanso (Mountain House)

Also from April 1st through to November 18th, on Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays from 11am to 4pm the “Vories Rokko Sanso (Mountain House)” is open. Admission is ¥500 and one can see a beautiful mix of Japanese and Western architecture by the famous William Merrell Vories.

Rokkosan Field Athletic

Fun and a fantastic workout for the entire family can be had at the “Rokkosan Field Athletic” obstacle course. There are 40 different obstacles to test ones strength, agility and balance. The venue is open from 10am to 5pm from March 17th to November 25th. Please note that when the weather is bad (rain, thick clouds, etc) for safety reasons they do not open, so it is always good to check the home page to make sure they are open before heading up. The cost is ¥930 for adults and ¥510 for children.

Rokkosan Country House

The “Rokkosan Country House” is also another fantastic place to enjoy time with family and friends. Go Carts, Putter Golf, Fishing, Paddle Boats, Trampolines, BBQ areas, large areas to play and relax and so much more. Open 10am to 5pm from April 19th until November 25th. Closed on Thursdays. Entrance is ¥620 for adults and ¥310 yen for children with the different prices for the various attractions. They also have a unlimited “Play Equipment Free Pass” available for ¥2,000 and ¥2,500 depending on which attractions one wants to enjoy.

Mt. Maya Backpack Market

Maya Backpack Market
On the third saturday of each month at the Kikuseidai of Mt. Maya is the “Mt. Maya Backpack Market.” One can buy, sell or trade many unique items with other flea market vendors and attendees. Cost is free and a great way to recycle things that you do not have and pick up something interesting that you didn’t know you needed. The up comming markets will be on July 21st, August 18th, September 15th, October 20th and November 17th.
