Happy New Year! Great time to visit Rokkosan!

Happy New Year, Rokkosan Fans and Nature Enthusiasts!

As we usher in another year full of hope and new beginnings, we can’t think of a better way to start it than by sharing the serene beauty of Rokkosan with you all. For those of you who might be seeing these posts for the first time, Rokkosan is nestled in the vibrant city of Kobe, Japan, and stands as a testament to nature’s splendor and the endless adventures it holds.

This year, Rokkosan has been basking in unusually mild winter weather. While snowflakes have been sparing, the lack of heavy snowfall has unveiled a different charm of the mountain. The paths, usually blanketed in snow this time of the year, are now open arms inviting hikers and nature lovers to explore.

The weather gods have been kind, gracing us with ideal conditions for hiking. The trails, draped in the beauty of winter, minus the extreme cold, offer a refreshing and invigorating experience. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or a casual walker, the trails of Rokkosan have something for everyone. As you hike the various trails, the panoramic views of Kobe and Osaka Bay are a sight to behold and well worth the journey.

There have been a few days where the temperatures have reached -4c, -5c, so sometimes there are patches of ice or even frozen wet leaves on the trails. It’s always good to wear proper footwear and take care about where you are stepping. Be sure to dress warm but have layers that you can open or take off as you get warm or cold. Remember the temperature on Rokkosan is usually 6c to 10c lower than what it is down in Kobe city.

As we step into this new year, we encourage you to step out and join us on these trails. Reconnect with nature, feel the crisp, clean winter air, and enjoy the scenic beauty that Rokkosan offers. It’s not just a journey through nature, but a journey within, as you start the year with positivity and peace.

The Guide House is open Tuesday to Sunday. The Visitors Center is open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Both are open from 10:00 until 15:00. Be sure to stop by, get warm, pick up a map and learn about animals, plants, and more. Toilets are also available for use during these times.

We are looking forward to seeing many of you here this year. Let’s make 2024 a year of adventure, nature, and wonderful memories.

Wishing you all a year filled with joy, health, and many breathtaking moments on Rokkosan!
