Rokkosan Holiday and Year End Events

The temperatures have not dropped that low yet, but are expected to drop as we get closer to the end of the year. Still with Rokkosan being 6 to 8 degrees celsius lower than the temperature in the city, be sure to dress warm and have an extra layer when visiting the mountain. 

With the lead up to Christmas being a weekend, there are lots of things happening on Rokkosan. As we mentioned last month, the Rokko Forest Sound Museum is having Kotatsu events and the Rokkosan Snow Park is now Open! There are still many more things to do!

Rokkosan Bokujo Christmas Events

Over at the Rokkosan Bokujo they will have various cow events happening on weekends in December. You can try being a farmer with feeding cows, walking cows, and also feeding the sheep. On December 23rd (Sat) and 24th (Sun) they will have a special sheep dog show and also on the 24th (Sun) there will be a special horse show. Also limited to just 20 people each day on the 23rd and 24th, from ¥1,500 you can enjoy making your own Santa sheep out of wool! Fun for the whole family!

Special Dinners with amazing views. 

The holiday season in Japan is also a time for many special and romantic dinners. Rokkosan has got you covered! For just 3 days from December 23rd to the 25th, one can enjoy a special Christmas Dinner at three different places on Rokkosan. All with incredible beautiful night views of Kobe.

In the Rokko Garden Terrace area both the Rokko View Palace will have a dinner buffet (¥5,000 for middle school ages and up, ¥2,000 for 4 yo and elementary ages) from 17:00 until the last order at 20:00, and the Granite Café will have your choice of a limited Xmas filet course (¥5,000) or limited Xmas fish course (¥4,000) dinner. 

At the TENRAN CAFE right next to the Rokko Cable Car Sanjo station thy will have a reservation only special dinner for ¥4,500 per person. This will also be available from 17:00 until the last order at 20:00. For reservations call 078-891-1011

Shidare Lights

We have talked about the Rokko Shidare Museum before and in the winter they often have many different evening light up events. For the Christmas weekend there will be a special Christmas light-up to enjoy with your friends and family. It will be from December 23rd (Saturday) to December 25th (Monday), 17:00-21:00 (last entry 20:30). The cost will be 1,000 yen for adults, 500 yen for children (4yo to elementary school).

Starting from November 25 and going until January 8th (Mon), 2024 there will also be a special “Lightscape in Rokko Shokubutsu no Akari ~Snow and Flowers~”. 

Masayuki Fushimi, a light-up artist, uses LED lights capable of expressing over 10 million colors of the four seasons interwoven with plants that grow in Rokko Alpine Botanical Garden to produce a gentle and soft light show that depicts the colors of plants that change with each season.

New Year’s Eve and New Year Special Events

Rokkosan also often does some special events on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. This year the Rokko Garden Terrace will be open from 22:00 on Sunday December 31st, 2023 until 9:00 on Monday January 1st, 2024. There will be some shops selling hot food to warm people that are up to look over the view. 

The Rokko Shidare will also be open from 5:30 am until 8:30 am to let people view the first sun of the year from it. The cost will be the normal 1,000 yen for adults, 500 yen for children (4yo to elementary school)

Please note that parking there will be a special new year’s price of ¥2,000 for cars and ¥300 for motorcycles

The Rokko Cable Car will also be running special early cars every 15 mins from 6:00 am until 6:45 and then continue the normal schedule from 7:10 am
