Kobe Rokko Meets Art 2026 beyond

The crisp mountain air is rolling in, which means it is time for one of the absolute best seasonal events on Rokkosan: KOBE ROKKO MEETS ART 2026 beyond.

 

Running from August 29th (Sat) through November 29th (Sun), 2026, this annual open-air festival transforms the natural landscapes, gardens, and architecture of Rokkosan into a sprawling contemporary art gallery. Featuring work from around 60 groups of artists, this year’s event promises an incredible mix of iconic world-class art and hidden mountain gems.

🎨 Highlight Exhibits & Venues

This year’s lineup connects nature, historical mountain architecture, and modern creative expression:

• Iconic World-Renowned Art: Keep an eye out for landmark sculptures seamlessly integrated into the landscape, including works by Yoshitomo Nara (Peace Head) and Yayoi Kusama (Yellow Pumpkin). 
• Rokkosan Visitor Center & Guide House: Make sure to stop by the Visitor Center and Guide House during your art walk! The site features two unique works of art—you’ll climb the wooden stairs leading up from the building to discover them set against the trees.
  
  
• ROKKO Forest Sound Museum & Alpine Botanical Garden: Relax in natural open-air gardens filled with sound installations, lush flora, and vibrant autumn foliage starting late October.
  
  
• Rokko-Shidare Observatory: Located 888 meters above sea level, this architectural icon offers sweeping views of Kobe and Osaka Bay alongside immersive artistic installations.
  
  
• Exclusive Historical Venues: Get rare access to architectural treasures usually closed to the public, such as Tadao Ando’s famous Wind Chapel (Chapel of the Wind) and the historic Panno Villa.
  
  

🗺️ Don’t Miss: The Official Guide Map & 64-Stamp Rally!

When you purchase your tickets or passport, be sure to grab the green Official Guide Map.

Inside, you’ll find the Original Stamp Rally sheet featuring a grid of 64 spaces! Each art installation across the mountain has its own dedicated stamp box mounted on a post nearby. As you explore the exhibits, open the weatherproof boxes, stamp your map, and try to collect all 64 as the ultimate keepsake of your mountain art adventure!

🍁 Special Autumn Night Event: “Hikari no Mori”

If you visit between late October and late November, stay past sunset for the special night viewing event, Hikari no Mori ~Night Art Walk~. Held on weekends and holidays in the ROKKO Forest Sound Museum and Alpine Botanical Garden areas, you can explore illuminated autumn leaves paired with glowing art installations under the night sky.

🎫 Passport & Ticket Options

To make the most of your day, grab a venue Viewing Passport (鑑賞パスポート). Here is a breakdown of the ticket options:

Day Passports (Access to all daytime paid venues):

• Adult Advance Ticket: ¥3,100 – ¥4,100 (Available until August 28)
• Adult Regular Ticket: ¥3,300 – ¥4,300 (August 29 – November 29)
• Child Regular Ticket (Ages 4–12): ¥1,300 – ¥1,800
• Children 3 & Under: Free

Hikari no Mori Night Passports (Evening Event Only):

• Adult Night Ticket: ¥1,850 (Advance) / ¥2,000 (Regular)
• Child Night Ticket: ¥1,000 (Regular)

Tip: Web discounts and special family promotions (such as free entry for up to two children per adult with online registration) are also available on the official website!

🚃 Getting There & Getting Around

• Public Transit: Take the Kobe City Bus (No. 16, 26, or 106) to the Rokkosan Cable Shita Station. Ride the historic cable car up the mountain, then hop on the Rokko Sanjo Bus loop to travel effortlessly between exhibition venues.
• By Car: Approximately 40 minutes from central Kobe or 1 hour from Osaka. Common parking passes (¥1,000) are available across venue parking lots.
