Spring on Rokkosan

The sun is coming out earlier and earlier and while the mornings and evenings are still quite brisk, spring has come to Rokkosan.

The birds are singing, insects coming out and flowers are blooming. While the sakura (cherry blossom) season is now waning in the city, the mountain sakura season is just starting. Whether you are taking the Rokko Cable Car, driving or hiking up, you can see the many sakura trees as their pink and white blossoms accent the lush greenery of the mountain.

Along with the sakura, there are numerous flowers and fauna that decorate Rokkosan in each and every season. Spring of course is a time of renewal and one of the most beautiful as nature comes back to life.

At the Visitor’s Center (now open daily from April 1st) there is also a nice wall display with large colorful closeup shots of flowers and areas where they can be seen.

At the Guide House we have many brochures that detail the different floral varieties that you can see and the seasons where they are at their peak. The pictures can help you identify the many different types of vegetation.

Though the majority of the information is in Japanese, smartphone apps such as the free Google Translate, can automatically change the text from Japanese into a language that will be more familiar and understandable to you. So be sure to stop by and pick up some information to make your visit to Rokkosan all the more enjoyable as well as educational.

Be sure to also look at last years “Rokko in the Spring” for other ideas.

See you on Rokkosan!
