Rokkosan Delicacies of Autumn

In Japan there is a phrase “Aki-no-Mikaku” (秋の味覚), the literal translation would be “Autumn Tastes” but more correctly it would be “the delicacies of autumn.” All around Japan there are many foods that are connected with Autumn or taste best during the autumn season.

 

All over the world autumn, harvest season, is a time for having wonderful meals and celebrating the end of a farming season. In Japan sweet potatoes, pumpkin, chestnuts, sitting around a nice nabe (hot pot) or sukiyaki with family and friend, and of course Sanma (秋刀魚) of which the Japanese kanji characters are actually “Autumn Sword Fish” are some of the typical autumn fare.

 

Here on Rokkosan there are many wonderful restaurants, and Autumn is an exceptional time to enjoy the cool weather and wonderful Autumn delights.

 

Some have fantastic views that one can enjoy while eating, others are nestled into the forest, and one can really enjoy immersing in the natural surroundings. They all share one thing in common though, delicacies to entice all the senses and enjoy the Aki-no-Mikaku of Japan.
